A little throwback for you today.
A while back, I was invited to co-host a 3PGC webinar with my dear friend Isabelle Caratti. We explored something close to my heart: how often what we hear has very little to do with what was actually said. And how deeply connection lives beyond the words.
The conversation was sparked by a simple yet powerful idea:
“What if it’s not about the words at all?”
We shared stories—funny, heartfelt, and deeply human—about miscommunication, cultural slang, and surprising moments of connection. I talked about how, even with my dog, there’s no need for language. We just know. Because it’s not about the words—it’s about the energy and intention behind them.
We also reflected on how much of our hearing is filtered through our own thinking. The words someone says may be neutral, but what we hear is shaped by our mood, our past, our assumptions. Isabelle gave the example of reading a simple “okay cool” text and how its meaning can shift dramatically depending on how we are feeling when we read it.
“What if every time we were in conversation, we heard one thing clearly: You are loved. Would that change how we listen?”
This wasn’t just an abstract exploration. It became personal. I shared how I reconnected with my brother after years of distance—not because anything changed out there, but because something shifted in me. I showed up to that conversation with nothing on my mind—no past, no judgment. Just presence. And that changed everything.

This conversation reminded me that listening—true listening—isn’t about analyzing words or getting it “right.”
It’s about slowing down, dropping into presence, and feeling the connection that’s always there.
That’s where the real understanding begins.
